Frequently Asked Questions

How old must my child be to enter kindergarten?

NCS firmly believes that children who are developmentally prepared for school entrance will experience less frustration and more success. For this reason, children are to be 5 years old by September 1st. Students who turn five after that date may be tested at the parents’ request; however, it is important to note that such a student must score in the superior range in order to have his or her admission to kindergarten be considered.

Do you provide support for students who have learning challenges?

Classrooms are conducted in such a way as to accommodate individual learning styles.  We do have a Learning Lab for students who may need more support and also qualify. Teachers may refer students, and if a student qualifies, further assessments may be administered to determine whether or not a student will qualify for support.  If admissions screening shows that a student will need support, the student may or may not be accepted depending on the amount of support that would be required. Questions regarding the Learning Lab should be referred to Mrs. Flaugher, our Learning Lab Department Head.

Do you have a program for gifted students?

We do not have a specialized program for the gifted; however, we meet the needs of the gifted student through differentiated instruction. Questions regarding specific needs whether support or enrichment, see Miss Shari Habusta, our curriculum director. Miss Habusta can also address differentiated instruction for math and reading used in the classroom. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Academic Achievers events for Math Olympics (3rd-8th), Speech (4th-8th), Spelling Bee (1st-8th), Geography Bee (4th-8th) and Creative Writing (6th).

What denominations do your students and teachers come from?

NCS is made up of many different denominations with the common ground being the belief that Jesus Christ died for our sins through the shedding of His blood and they have accepted Christ as their personal Savior and have a personal relationship with Him.

Do you have a before and after school care program?

Kids Club is offered in the morning from 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM and after school from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM. If Kids Club will be used by a family on a regular basis the family will want to enroll in order to be eligible for the lower hourly rate. The enrollment fee is $30 per single child family or $40 enrollment fee for a multi-child family to enroll for the school year and an hourly fee of $3.50.

Little Lambs is our childcare program for children 3 years old through kindergarten age. Childcare is available 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM for a nominal fee. Parents who work have kindergarten and preschool children enroll in the program. Little Lamb is open throughout the summer for children ages 3 to 13 years old.

Is bus service available to students?

Northville Public Schools system provides busing to families who live within the Northville School District.   Many families form car pools. For reference on potential car pool members, a list of families with similar zip codes is available from the school office.

Where do students go when they graduate from NCS?

Our students are almost evenly distributed between parochial, public, and Christian high schools. The feedback that we receive is that our students make the adjustment and do very well. They are academically prepared and experience success. Each student’s progress and performance varies due to individual differences in ability and effort.

What achievement tests do you administer to your students each year?

The Terra Nova is administered to all students each Spring. In addition, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade students are administered the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test. This tool allows the school and parents to determine what each student’s general scholastic ability is, as well as whether or not our students are achieving to that ability level. During May of each year, 7th and 8th grade students take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test to determine their best math placement for the following year.
