Weekly Lesson Plans

Preschool – 3rd Grade (May 18th)

Pet Rocks!

Go on a nature walk and find a smooth/somewhat flat rock. Use acrylic or washable paint to paint the body.  Use a black sharpie marker to outline your details. The picture is an example of ladybugs, but you can choose a different animal or insect 🙂

Preschool – 3rd Grade (May 11th)

Exploring Space

  • Explore the YouTube channel “Art For Kids”  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5XMF3Inoi8R9nSI8ChOsdQ
  • Choose a drawing video. Create the drawing three times, and make your drawings three sizes: one large, one medium, and one small. Be sure to do your best work. This includes adding color if you can. Cut out your drawings.
  • Now use the art idea of “space” to arrange your three drawings in a new drawing. Use their size to help you show space. Please share your work!

Space Scavenger Hunt

  •  Use this sheet to go on a shape and form ‘Scavenger Hunt’.
  • Use the “What I Found” area to draw what you find that shows the shapes and forms.

Preschool – 3rd Grade (May 4th)

Complete 4 “Gallery of Gratitude” frames. You can print the sheet to use, or create reflections on another piece of paper. Gallery of Gratitude.jpg

Find your favorite toy.  Draw a picture of it!  What shapes do you see? Is it a stuffed animal?  Does it have fur?  Is it a game with lots of bright colors?

Surprise Folding Paper Creature! Watch the video below for directions. Use your imagination and add details, along with color.

Preschool – 3rd Grade (April 27th)

After listening to the story, what was “Clark”  trying to learn?  On the back of your drawing paper, please write three sentences of what you thought “Clark” was trying to learn from his teacher and friends.  When you have finished your sentences, turn your paper over and see if you can draw “Clark” and don’t forget to add your underwater, background detail.

Grades 4-8 (May 18th)

Paint with Foil

  • Jay Lee creates wonderful and creative paintings using foil in place of a brush. Watch the video below for an example.   Spring is here and the trees are blooming.  Enjoy! I would love to see what you create! jkapp@livoniapublicschools.org

Memorial Day Weekend Drawings

  • Memorial Day weekend will be here soon and some of you might be fishing and/or boating.  So watch the video  “Teach Me to Draw a DOCK”  by Mr. Mayberry and lets’ get started.  Find a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler.  If you had a chance to draw the “Railroad Tracks” a couple of weeks ago you will be familiar with some of the same vocabulary words: horizon line, vanishing point, space, and perspective.   When your dock is all done, add some extra details to your drawing, such as…fish jumping out of the water, a rowboat tied to the dock, life preserver hanging on the post, a fishing pole, a cooler…filled with your favorite food.

Grades 4-8 (May 11th)

Tour a Museum: J Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles

  • With more than 6,000 years worth of creative treasures, the Getty is one of the best places for art on the west coast of the US. Go from neolithic clay figures to Van Gogh’s Irises and Renoir’s La Promenade – just two of many artworks that are featured in the virtual tour. As with several of our selections, Google Arts and Culture offers a “museum view” tool to look inside gallery spaces, with clickable artworks presenting further information. The Getty’s sunny sculpture plaza and garden terrace are worth adding to your digital trip, via another viewing platform, Xplorit.

Learn and/or continue your understanding of one-point perspective drawing.  Watch the video below to learn how to draw a railroad track using one-point perspective.  If you would like to challenge yourself even further, try the tutorials for two-point and three-point perspective drawing.

Grades 4-8 (April 27th)

View the following artwork and interpret the work through all of your senses, not just sight. Explore the work of art visually by asking, what’s going on in this picture? Then begin to think about using senses other than sight to enter the image in a new way. For example, what would you smell if you were in this scene? What would you feel/touch (you can follow up with what would that feel like – rough, soft, silky, itchy, warm, etc.)? What would you hear if you were there? What would you taste (you can follow up with, describe that – salty, sweet, smoky, fresh, etc.)?

  1. The Cottagers, 1788, Joshua Reynolds, English; oil on canvas
  2. Detroit Industry, North Wall, 1932, Diego Rivera, Mexican fresco
  3. Fire in a Haystack, 1856, Jules Breton, French; oil on canvas
  4. Choose your own piece of art:
